It was a
maintenance day again! But first, THE
BREAKFAST.
Pastor Ralph
treated us, no holds barred, to a truly old fashioned American, Floridian,
Breakfast. Bob Simcox, think Annies of Royersford! I even asked our server if
they were owned by the same people. She laughed and said not.
But the 10”
wide pancakes, the extra sausage, bacon, or egg beyond what you order, and the
over the top fine service just wowed us with calories! It was breakfast and lunch combined for this
well fed couple. TY Pastor, for
introducing us to the Alva Diner!
We sat and
talked for almost two hours till Ralph had to get to his ‘stuff’ and we had to
get to ours. Ours was less spiritual but
just as needful, to be sure. Mona has
been waiting for a week to give me a haircut.
Not driven by the length of my head hair so much as my ear hairs
(spiders). In thirty minutes I was 10 years younger again.
Then it was
maintenance time for TOAD. We’ve been
spending a lot of time on FROG of late so its only fair that TOAD gets a turn
at the shop, or shops, as it turned out.
Ralph and a
couple of his parishioners told us that Walmart
at Jones Loop, in Punta Gorda, would give us the best work and price, and we
believe they were right. Oil & lube,
filters and safety check all around and four rotated tires for $60.00 But the word on the brakes was what we’d
expected. All four needed new pads.
Rueben, our
service guy at Walmart, recommended Community Auto in Port Charlotte, about
15 minutes north so we called and they took us in. Two hours and $445.00 later
our pads were new, our drums were sanded, the assemblies were oiled and TOAD
was set to go.
On our
driving about today we saw the horse and cattle ranch and citrus grove and
honey bee country to the north of Alva.
Beautiful. No pictures, though.
And we saw a
most gorgeous sunset from the bridge over the fishing fleet docks of Punta
Gorda. No pictures though.
And we saw
Santa on his airboat. Like we said at
the start of the day, a truly old fashioned American, Floridian CHRISTMAS is
coming this year!
